About Me - Mark Thomson
My background is not just confined to horticulture and garden design. I have an Associate Diploma in Applied Science where I specialised in Environment and Forestry. Working with the DPI as an overseer and as a production nursery manager, has given me extensive experience in plant production, etablishment and maintenance. I also have formal qualifications in landscape horticulture and garden design. I have been a consultant for over 16years and have travelled all over S.E. Qld and northern NSW for work. Over this time I have seen many gardens and resolved many horticultural and design issues.
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping clients by giving the right advice. So when you are developing your landscape it is important to realise the benefits that a suitably qualified consultant can bring to your project.
In January 2008, I completed a Permaculture Design Certificate. This enables me to converse and relate the permaculture philosophy and design principles to those of you who are wishing to lighten their footprints! Permaculture is broadly -based in many science disciplines, Its holistic approach has many valuable applications to all aspects of my life. As a student of applied science my skill and experience gives me the unique ability to advise and solve problems in a diverse range of situations. My conservative conscience gives me a deep seated desire to minimise our impact on the environment.
I am currently involved in a community garden in Chermside at the Burnie Brae centre. It is a new garden that is being made to help the patrons of the Burnie Brae Respite Day Centre and the surrounding residents of the park.
